There was a hint of jealousy going through the spider’s mindset right now. Alison, who never had a day of S.H.I.E.L.D experience (as far as she knew) and yet she was in on all these secrets? Jess had spent years in this facility, hell, even a Skrull replicate of her had gained Fury’s trust. And that’s hard to come by. In fact, Blaire had even turned down the Avengers in it’s earlier days. (Jessica was choosing to ignore the first time she was offered the job, she denied it as well, and that was with the Dazzler)
Her posture stiffened a bit as she put a hand on her hip. Raking through her thoughts, her memories, matching names to faces, every minor and major character in the Phoenix fiasco, and every blonde the X-men and what ever X teams had, and… Blaire was not in it. Where the hell was she? Perhaps it had something to do with the weird Xavier thing she had mentioned before— and she didn’t want to think about it.
“Well,” Jessica began, perking a brow, as one corner of her lip perked up as well. “As long as that’s why you’re here.“ She commented, obviously satisfied with the current situation. However, when Blaire stood up, the instinct move was for her to clench fists and get into a fighting stance, but it quickly melted away. “Careful, though, Blaire. The table isn’t your enemy. It did no harm.”
Alison’s immediate response was to sneer, an obviously fake smile slid across her face like all of the times she’d been forced to do it before. Her head twisted to the side, as the smile stayed plastered on her face for a few more dragging seconds before ultimately giving way to an extremely placid expression. She absentmindedly brushed down the table with the back of her hand, an awkward laugh slipping out of her mouth before she had chance to stop it.
“The only reason why,” Alison responded in an overly sweet tone, it had a crisp edge to it though, her impatience was getting the better of her and that was clearly obvious in the way the tips of her fingers danced over the sides of her legs in a quick but elegant fashion. “Why I’m here, that is.” She added hastily after realizing the major flaw in her previous statement. She gave a quick, curt nod in Jess’s direction before taking a few steps towards the door, which still happened to be blocked by Jessica’s body.
“Oh, I know that, obviously. But you can never be too sure nowadays.” Alison commented, coming to a halt a meter away from Jessica. She made a sort of motion with her eyes, in which her mind thought of as ‘get out of the way’ but making discreet notions had never been her way of working. Discreet anything was usually a disaster for Alison. Mostly because flashy was in her nature, hardwired into her genetic code. So subtle hints to avoid being rude? Not Alison’s forte, period.
Turning her back for a moment, her eyes narrowed as she gazed into the hallways. Damn, they looked so empty. “Did I–”...
